Most people love beans but avoid or limit how much they eat it because it gives them gas. It can be quite uncomfortable when you are in public and have a build-up in your system. You want to release it so badly, but fear the outcome; it could come out sounding like a mini bomb just went off or worse, smell so badly from your direction you’d have a hard time pretending it didn’t come from you.
So should you avoid eating beans if you love it so much? Not unless you want to. There are ways around this and here are three proven ways to de-gas a beans before cooking it:
1. Soak Overnight or for 8 Hours
Soaking a beans overnight or for an extended period of time reduces the gas a great deal. Just place the beans to be cooked in a bowl, top up with enough water and leave overnight. Drain the water and place in your pot when you are ready to cook.
If you are pressed for time but would still like to de-gas your beans, then this is the method to use. This method can get your beans rid of gas and ready to be cooked in as little as 15 minutes.
To start, pour 2-3 cups of hot water into the bowl of beans and cover with a vented plastic wrap. Let it soak for 5-10 minutes and then drain the water. Once done, transfer the beans into a heat resistant bowl, top up again with water and microwave for 2 minutes. Your beans become ready to be cooked.
3. Cook with Adwain and Epazote Herbs
These herbs heightens the flavour of beans as well as eliminate excess gas. To use, soak your beans for one to two hours, drain water and add adwain or epazote when cooking.
